Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs:
* antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon),
clomipramine (Anafranil), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), and others;
* an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine
(Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or
tranylcypromine (Parnate);
* atropine (Donnatal, and others), benztropine (Cogentin),
dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), glycopyrrolate (Robinul), mepenzolate
(Cantil), methscopolamine (Pamine), or scopolamine (Transderm-Scop);
* bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin
(Enablex), flavoxate (Urispas), oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol),
tolterodine (Detrol), or solifenacin (Vesicare);
* a bronchodilator such as ipratropium (Atrovent) or tiotropium (Spiriva); or
* irritable bowel medications such as dicyclomine (Bentyl),
hyoscyamine (Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Levsin, and others), or propantheline
(Pro-Banthine).
Since Vicodin is taken as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule.
If you are taking the medication regularly, take the missed dose as
soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the
missed dose and wait until your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not
use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. An overdose of Vicodin can be fatal.
Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, sweating, pinpoint
pupils, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin
or eyes), confusion, cold and clammy skin, muscle weakness, fainting,
weak pulse, slow heart rate, coma, blue lips, shallow breathing, or no
breathing.
Take Vicodin exactly as it was given for you. Do not take it in bigger
amounts, or use it for longer than suggested by your doctor. Follow the
instructions on your recommendation label. Tell your medical doctor if
the drug seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.
An overdose of acetaminophen can cause serious harm to your liver. The
maximum amount of acetaminophen for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose
and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day. One Vicodin tablet may contain up to 750
mg of acetaminophen. Know the amount of acetaminophen in the specific
product you are taking.
Measure the liquid form of this medication with a special
dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not
have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist where you can get one.
Most important fact about Vicodin
Vicodin can be habit-forming. If you take this drug over a long period
of time, you can become mentally and physically dependent on it, and
you may find the drug no longer works for you at the prescribed dosage.
NOTES:
Do not share this medication with others. It is against the law.
This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do
not use it later for another condition unless told to do so by your
doctor. A different medication may be necessary in those cases.
To prevent constipation, maintain a diet adequate in fiber, drink
plenty of water, and exercise. If you become constipated while using
this drug, consult your pharmacist for help in selecting a laxative
(e.g., stimulant-type).
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all
prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of:
other medications for pain, cimetidine, isoniazid, MAO inhibitors
(e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine procarbazine,
rasagiline, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine), anti-seizure
drugs (e.g., carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), anticholinergic
drugs/antihistamines (e.g., hydroxyzine, oxybutynin, scopolamine).
This combination medication is used to relieve moderate to severe
pain. Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain reliever (opiate-type) that acts
on certain centers in the brain to give you pain relief. Acetaminophen
is a non-narcotic pain reliever.

This medication may also be used to suppress a cough.
Vicodin is a tablet containing a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers (painkiller).
